I think it as a good idea to be honest. It gives these people an opportunity to be educated or work rather than just having to dedicate all their time to the child. Eventually they won't need it as they can fund things themselves through this.

Also the money is for childcare and not just £5000 in your pocket.

I did work experience with pregnent teenagers a couple of months ago - and anyone who gets pregnent for money or a flat should be pitied because they do not have a clue what they are getting themselves into. They do not have it easy. For instance - 7 month pregnent girl living in a hostel with a tiny room on the top floor and no lift or adequate bathing for a baby. She had to be moved and I can't remember the exact details but the only place avalible would be another hostel with no cooking facilites or bathing facilities. I met loads of girls my age in a week with simalar problems - not one of them had asked for the situation they were in. I'm not saying there aren't girls who genuinally don't care but you can't judge everyone the same, they need the support. I'd give you loads more examples but none of you would bother reading them!

we have similiar problems in america. i don't think these women are having babies purely for the welfare cheque. but when they start having 5+ babies, it seems that they are trying to milk the system. i know in many states they are trying to pay women to get their tubes tied. it's sad that they have to go to such lenghts on either side.

I wouldnt think people do it to get a free house or flat.

Barnsley had the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in England not long back, dont know what its like now. The houses or flats they give them are the sh*test houses there are that no one else wants to live in in the worst areas . If there's a wait for a house they get put up in a B&B where all the drugies live. I dont think any girl in Barnsley would get pregnant to get one of these houses. Maybe in other areas though they get set up good.

im with james whale on this....you should have to obtain a license in order to pro-create. to get the license you will have to prove that your are financially, physically and mentally capable of bringing up a child.
