Linkin Park are cool but you're right, they're not rock.
You want rock you need to go back to Metallica pre-black albumn. Their latest stuff is in a class of it's own.
Of course in the words of one pale faced black haired metal toothed person, "Rock is Dead".

Closest I could think of, they were kinda PJ and Ducanish. As in 2 out of 3 were in Byker Grove.
