My very own website has just been through a little make-over and I'm quite happy with it now sooo... I want to know what y'all think of it!

If you think it's sh*t then tell me why, but also tell me if you like any of it!

I'm aiming to make it something people want to visit if they're bored but bare in mind I have a limited knowledge of website creation so it isn't professional really!

So... here it is. Take a look and let me know what you think...

Cheers Adam. I don't doubt it's better than mine. Mine took about 10 minutes to make and wasn't intended to be anything special.

It looks cool Stephen, but I really can't be arsed looking at every detail on dial-up. All the same it may help me releave boredom next year at uni.

You had me worrying there... lol! Thanks for the positive reply, I'll keep adding to the pictures (hopefully) and the jokes will start soon when I have the time :D

i'm sorry stephen but i have to be honest, i dont like it

my reasons are thus:

- the content of your page is pushed unacceptably far down the screen by that ridiculous banner...

- ...which made me think i had just been sent back in time to 1997, when 3D spinning text graphics like that did not make websites look tacky and amateurish.

- the splash page (which i didnt have the patience for) is totally unecessary, not just on your site but on all websites. splash screens must die!

the layout of your links lacks imagination. central, spaced far apart resulting in lots of annoying scrolling. it could easily be all fit onto the page with no scrolling if it were in a neat compact sidebar (like chrismoyles.net for example)

this was not meant to be offensive, but constructive. i hope you might be able to take some of this advice and make improvements (if you value my advice)

you wanted an honest opinion and i gave you one (and an opinion, chortle)

I'll be honest - I agree with Lewis.

Animated GIFs I have always thought are tacky and horrible, I don't like the idea of describing a link and then having an image (or text for that matter) saying 'click here', why not just link the description text in the first place.

Agree on the splash screen too, I know that's what the skip intro link is for, but to be honest I couldn't be arsed to wait.

I'd give you my site URL but you posted this in General and I can't afford the bandwidth you may get from curious eyes in here.

Again i think i agree mostly with what Lewis has said.

There isn't exactly a design to the site, just a list of links in the middle and the animated .gifs look tacky. I also dont like the background image.

I can't see a need for the clock, i have one on my computer as im sure many other do. It's annoying how it follows the page down when you scroll, which you have to do alot of.

Firstly, no need to apologise, I wanted honesty and I'll take all suggestions into consideration :D ...

It's going...

Lewis wrote:- the splash page (which i didnt have the patience for) is totally unecessary, not just on your site but on all websites. splash screens must die!

That can go too...

Lewis wrote:the layout of your links lacks imagination. central, spaced far apart resulting in lots of annoying scrolling. it could easily be all fit onto the page with no scrolling if it were in a neat compact sidebar (like chrismoyles.net for example)

This however causes me to think... Ow! lol!

Basically as I said I don't have the advanced knowledge to create such front pages as chrismoyles.net so I think that you may have to deal with the layout. I can squash it up as you said and make it more compact for less scrolling but that's all I am capable of...

Lewis wrote:this was not meant to be offensive, but constructive. i hope you might be able to take some of this advice and make improvements (if you value my advice)

Lol, thanks very much for the honest opinion, that was my sole aim of putting the URL on here so that people could help me create a better site and something that isn't made just for my liking but for others too... Moving on then...

Topher wrote:I don't like the idea of describing a link and then having an image (or text for that matter) saying 'click here', why not just link the description text in the first place.

I see where you are coming from there, would it be acceptable in your opinion to have the button with the text in or would text only be better?

What exactly don't you like about it? I thought the colour scheme looked quite good :?

Thanks for all your opinions, I'll get to work on the improvements when I have time...

Stephen.

P.S. Is there anything about the other pages people don't like? Are they to spacey too or is it just the front page? I'm happy with the content so I aint changing that, I think it's just the design I'm having problems with!

Either, I personally prefer text though.

I can't get hold of a copy as yet and I can't be bothered with downloading the huge file but if I can get a copy I will try! It would mean re-making the whole site though wouldn't it? Or could I edit what I have made already?

You must have edited your post before I replied. Don't think I didn't see what you wrote.

Good to know, thanks!
