can someone help me write a CV? i am applying for a part time job in Spar (classy!) and they want me to write a CV for them. I have all of my qualifications, all of my previous jobs, now i need to sell myself (in the non-prostitute sense) to my employer. any tips on what to write?

I'd send you the link to mine but it has contact details on and I've already made that mistake in the chat room once... Just that anyone can get in this area.

I'll sort you out a copy of mine over the weekend that has non-sensitive info on so you can get some ideas.

baby_bear:

may i suggest you go to your school/ college resources centre or whatever you call it and look for a cv book. your local careers centre will also have this information.

basically - you need to mention your skills and not always highlight on your hobbies as much.

as an example and this is of the top of my head try talking about some of this things.

do you have any personal achievenements?
have you ever had any post of respons'tity (for example looking after people in your scout group that you mentioned a while back?)
do you or have you learnt any special skills recently?
what skills and abilities do you have?
what activities and interests do you have in your spare time?
have you got any achievements? eg duke of edinburghs award (dofe)

you really dont have to say much. i mean its only a p/t in the local spar.

basically your aims are to:

give yourself a brief overview of who you are...? highlight your skills and experince (have you worked in a shop before? do you enjoy working with people? what are you customer service skills like? etc etc) what are communication skills like?

for example:

"i am a adaptable and enthusiastic individual who takes great pride in my work. communicates well at all levels and is able to form a working realtionship quickly with a wide range of people...."

"I am a confident worker and am willing to help people. I am looking for a part time job to raise money to go to university. I am in 6th form in Ysgol **** ***** and I often help look after the younger people in the school. "

Hows that for starters? I censored the school out cos i dont particularly want people to know what school i go to, which is fair enough, I'd say!

Topher: thanks for the offer, but i need to take it to them today. I had one all done for a course in school, but it was on the computer at home, which has decided its not gonna work anymore and wont load up, it just goes in a loop. so i have to do it today, they only phoned me yesterday!

it wouldnt be hard to really find out seeming you've already made the mistake of telling the board where you live.

I can't believe they don't teach kids how to write CVs in schools anymore. My sister had to do one the other day and she didn't have a clue.

We had one lesson on it in year 10 as part of PSE, that was it. How can you work in Spar - I couldn't in our local one cos I'm not 18 - they sell alcohol and rent out videos.

but most places like spar sell lighter fuel as well. you have to be 21 to buy it but i think you can sell it at 18?

that seems strange to me

When you write a CV for a part time job, you should be honest like that bloke in that email McDonalds application form.
Say things like you're willing to do all the little boring horrible jobs if it means you can have some cash to socialise with.
Don't be hostile, but be blatantly honest.
If they don't hire you then you probably wouldn't want to work with them anyway.

My sis works in the Co-op and she's only 17. I think you're allowed to sell pre-packed alcohol when you're 16.

I did a cv, umm last school year. Secondary 3/4..I guess that would be Year 10/11. The systems confuse me a little. Just promote yourself on your cv, and make a good effort to lay it out properly and type/write it neatly. It may be the only impression that will count, so it really has to be perfect, no spelling mistakes and all the rest.

My cv, was a lot of lies I think, but I have not used it even though I do have jobs.

In the interview, when they ask what can you bring to the company...#

Say you can bring and enthuastic and professional service which can only enhance the working and social environment at the work place

Good to know, thanks!
