i think its gonna be much more difficult this year for anyone to string a run of results together. it looks like apart from Wigan and Sunderland everyone has a proper squad this season to make changes.

wigan and sunderland probably have more depth in their squads than ours.

lets not get carried away steve, who have you played so far in your string of good results? basically teams you would expect to do well against.

We can't expect to do well against anyone, we beat Chelsea and Liverpool last year, got good draws at Stamford Bridge, Highbury and Old Trafford.

YET we lost against West Brom, Birmingham, Arsenal reserves and Oldham! We also lost twice against Wolves the previous season.

Anything's possible with City.

Try being a Liverpool fan, we can beat AC Milan, but can only just beat CSKA Moscow after extra time !!!

Just shows how important Gerrard is. Cisse is quality, hope he doesn't get sold to make way for the large-headed dwarf.

On a different subject, I didn't realise Chelsea had signed Rob Styles over the summer, he should be shot. The ref in the Newcastle v Man U game was a bit dodgy too.

Cisse is a quality striker and I hope they don't get rid of him, I also though Baros was a good striker (well better than Morinentes anyway).

Newcastle got very lucky yesterday. Carr should have been send off and Given probably too.

He still wont help Newcastle, they need to buy 4 defenders before they can start winning games.

he has ruined his career in the long term by going there. if he had stayed at madrid he would have still been in the engalnd team who realistically have no chance of winning the world cup anyway. he wont win a single thing at newcastle because they are rubbish.

good move for newcastle

Do you think he has a relegation release clause in his contract, cos he may need it the way there playing

They won't get relegated... I don't normally comment on football because quite honestly I don't know as much about it as most people on here - but I would bet money that they won't go down.

yees probably. he probably has a clause to leave if they are not in europe as well, something so he can get out of his contract at the end of the season to go to liverpool when he realises what a mistake hes made.

I hope he never come back to Liverpool, that is twice he has let us down, last year all summer saying he would sign a new contract and then decided to p**s off and now joining Newcastle. We've moved on now we have Cisse.

your right but im sure it is standard when a big name player like owen joins a club who is expected to survive easily to have a relagation release clause. it is on football manager anyway.

The sooner they get rid of Souness, the better! Although now aging, they have the greatest ever Premiership goalscorer on their books, and now Michael Owen, so there certainly should be no excuse for shortage of goals!

Anyone think Shearer would make a good player/manager?

Not straight away next season but maybe he'll make a good manager in the long term

I think he will become a coach first, then manager, just like Sturat Pearce has done.

The only reason Owen isn't going to Liverpool is because of Benitez. His career has taken a huge step backwards moving to Newcastle. I was pretty surprised that none of the big clubs went for him straight away, especially Chelsea since they desperately need a decent striker. Also, if I hear "he'll guarentee you 20 goals a season" one more time by any pundit or ex-footballer, I'm gonna spew.
