How is it supposed to be pronounced then? The furthest north i've been is Norfolk. Not my choice, I'd like to point out, I have nothing against going up north.

I assume you mean the word "loch"?

I have no idea how to describe what that sounds like on a forum. Wikipedia says: "A loch (usually Lough as a name element outside Scotland) is a body of water".

So I'd pronounce it as in Lof? Or Log? Or are you supposed to make some kind of hacking sound like in spanish when you want to pronounce things that begin with J?

Id compare it the the spanish analogy you just used. I wouldnt use the word "hacking" though - its a lot softer sounding!
