Being £75.00 up because my car insurance is now up to date and due for renewal at the end of the month is making me happy today because I assumed it was due in August which means I'd compensated for £75.00 going out of my account as per usual. But it didn't. So I'm very happy.
PLUS! When i renew my car insurance with Tescos next month i'll be paying less, £45.00 less infact(which always makes me happy), and i'll also be getting a free pressure washer worth £100 with the deal... so I'm a very happy chappy today.

This - and some other posts you have made on similar subjects recently - inspire me to express how impressed I am at your financial maturity at such a young age Ms Bike. I wish I had been as level headed and clear sighted about it all at your age. I know you are feeling frustrated with stuff at the moment, but honestly, I can say with as much certainty as is possible in such a situation, that you will be absolutely fine - you have a superb attitude to these matters. I'm absolutely sure that you will work things out very well indeed.

People whom are good with money always used to amaze me. I left uni about £15k in debt, Mrs B managed to come out roughly in the black, and yet we seemed to live similar university lifestyles.

Clearing that amount of debt was always going to be an arse and I struggled to make a dent in the first 2 years, I thought I'd never be able to buy a house. So when Me and Mrs B got together she went through my finances with a fine tooth comb, and told me what to do. 3 years later, the debt was gone, and I still don't know how she did it. Sure there were cut backs here and there, and a bit of lifestyle change. But it was more to do with organising the debt, and moving it about a lot. It was a bit of a slog for those 3 years, but it was worth it, nowadays I have no debt but for the two mortgages.

Like I say.... some people are just good with finances. Topher, I can charger her out to you if you want? £50 an hour..... for financial advice only of course.

Aww, thanks Yuds - most people say that I'm sometimes tight with my money, when I think I'm just cautious. I work hard for my money, which means I sure as hell don't want to piss it away like some of my friends do every Friday night. Don't get me wrong, I like going out and having fun, for instance; when it's Pride time I've been known to spend around £300 that weekend on Taxis, food, drink, etc. but generally, I've saved for that occasion; but when it's every Friday night that people are spending hundreds of pounds I just think "what have you got to show for it? A hangover." Great. I just feel that there are some things you need to do properly in life; and for me anyways, I can't speak for others, saving money or at least having things to show for your money is one of them. I think I get it from mummy bike. She's really organised with her money.

I hope you're right though Yuds, I'm so excited about getting our own place. I just hope I haven't missed anything major out. I'm sure I haven't (I'm a girl who makes lots lists/spreadsheets), especially as I've also over compensated for everything as well, rounding up things to the nearest ten/hundred. So hopefully, any suprises should be covered too.

One tip: Don't get sucked into to any 2 for £10, Buy One Get One Free, DVDs and CDs from 1p deals on HMV or Play.com - they always do Mrs RB in. I think this month she's bought 6 DVDs because "...*whinge* *whinge* they were on a deal *whinge*".

My philosophy is spend spend spend. I am the sole reason the British economy hasn't totally collapsed. In fact I think the current crisis is because I've cut back on my hours recently so am spending a little less.

I got into real trouble with my Credit Card about 4 years ago, one morning i woke up, vowed to sort it out and I paid off my 6 grand CC bill off in just under 3 years. Its turned my attitude of money around too, and I'm exactly like rusty - I can't see how people will happily go out, get shitfaced and come home £60 - £100 lighter every bloody weekend, yet people do!
I think i've one too much the other way though, a few months ago I had decided to treat myself to a new guitar. I had saved up for it over 3 months, had the cash in hand walked into the shop... then walked out again. Took me 3 hours to muster up the courage to buy it (£320 if you were wondering). I drove home in a semi-panic about spending it all too. I think i'm getting better though, slowley.

Well, some of you know the trouble that I got into and it very nearly cost me my relationship.

I have maxed my credit card twice now (maxed being £3,000).. the first time I had a lucky lifeline in the form of an inheritance from my godmother; but I paid it off and then just ran it up again after swearing that I wouldn't do it again. I have nothing to show for it and severely regret it, but after the last time (which was the time that nearly cost me my relationship and certainly meant that I didn't get a house) I really kicked myself up the arse (and Mrs Topher did, which helped) and paid it off in about seven or eight months (I was staying at my dad's for next to nothing, which also helped.)

I now feel dirty when I hold a credit card; mine was cut up months ago now. I still don't trust myself with money though, I'd rather have someone else manage it for me (which obviously won't happen.)
