Hmmm...I work in a bookies so I get to know a bit about the world of gambling. Occasionally when one of my friends goes to a race couse (usually some company sponsered thing) they phone me to ask me if I've heard anything or to see which way the market is moving or just general points to watch out for. while I don't know everything about every horse and track I can usually give them a good enough overview to help them a bit (one of my friends still owes me a bottle of champagne from a big win he had). They come to me because it's my job to take an active interst in the field I work in....This is going somewhere don't worry.

By the same token If I wanted to buy a book and only had enough money to by one of two roughly equally priced books then I would ask the Manager of said book shop to give me thier views on the books. True the Manager can't read very book in their shop but should have a reasonable idea of what it's like. How well it's selling, who likes it etc... and I would use that information to make my own mind.

Anyone can give an opinion as it's a subjective thing and as such you can't argue with subjective concepts and just say "you're wrong". You can raise your own points as to why they are wrong but little more than that. However weight must also be given as to the source of teh opinion and in the case of teh two books I'd tend to favour someone who manages a bookshop for a living.

So hands up who manages a bookshop for a living then?
