T in the Park would probably be the best bet for you, Viv. I think everyone should go to to one music festival (and camp). You'll either leave feeling totally hooked or vowing never to go to a festival again.

I went to Reading every year between 93 and 98 and also Leeds in 2001, but I'm getting a bit old for this festival lark now. My bro still goes to Reading every year and in fact his trip there this year is also his honeymoon.

You will. The atmosphere is usually quite nice and a bit different from a gig in a club or concert hall. I kinda feel sorry for younger people who didn't get a chance to go to festivals before they were so commercialised. They used to be a bit of a cult thing - not that thousands of people didn't go cos they did, but magazines weren't full of pics of all the stars in their 'festival chic' outfits like they are now, and people who weren't specific fans of rock/indie would turn their noses up at the thought of camping out to see bands and buy overpriced tie-dyed apparel.

What an amazing weekend! I managed to get a Metalica guitar pick that they threw into the crowd! I think Tenacious D and The Ting Tings were the two best acts I saw.

Bring on 2009! Although I might go back to Leeds again next year, there was too many annoying kids a Reading.

Just got back - it was a fantastic weekend! Rage Against the Machine were absolutely incredible. It was good to meet up with my friends and the camp-sites were nice and lively at night (perhaps with 'annoying kids' such as myself..?)

I've already got my 2009 ticket in the pre-sale as it is normally a nightmare getting them when they release the majority of them.

Did you take your tent home with you? My friend went and she said LOADS of stuff got left at the end, she ended up with 2 new double air beds 3 bottles of vodka and 150 cans of beer!

Yeah, there was a tonne of stuff left behind on the Monday morning. I took my tent but I think if you left it there it would have been donated to charity. There were some campers handing out free beer and cider but everyone was so knackered and hungover (Sunday night is notoriously boisterous) that nobody was taking it!

See, my bro said he wasn't that impressed with RATM. He said he thought they were "going thru the motions." He actually said that he didn't think that any band stood out particularly this year.

See I thought that about Shed Seven at V festival, but they were still great to watch. Mainly cos all the kids * off and left a bunch of 30 somethings watching! That was the only gig we were right at the front for.

But 'going through the motions' is exactly what we wanted. They played their socks off and every tune was classic with amazing riffs. They gave everyone exactly what they wanted to hear - and not once did they mention the dreaded words "new material"!

"Going through the motions" means that they are just playing on auto pilot and not really putting their heart and soul into it. Like they treat it as if it's just another day in the office. It has nowt to do with new material.

Shed Seven are a 90s indie band, they had a few hits, not loads, but a fairly dedicated following. They did have a song called Going For Gold which has ensured many years of repeat fees from usgae during Olympic and other televised sporting events.
