I think it's turned into a witch hunt. It's OK for black people to call each other n****rs and to use the word in songs but as soon as a white person does it, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and heads roll.

Having said that Ron Atkinson is a p***k and there are much better people to be football pundits.

He didn't say he wanted to kill anyone because they were black. I've been called a white c**t before now by an Asian gentleman, but I didn't see the need to go and tell the police or make any other kind of fuss. I just told him if he was going to try and insult me, he should be more original than stating the obvious.

The point I was trying to make was basically, Was it so terrible as people have made out? I don't personally think so. Ron Atkinson has worked with many black players during his management career and I dare say he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did if he made a habit of saying things like that. I think it was purely a slip of the tongue. I'd be slightly jarred off if I was a Chelsea fan too. Marcel was lazy. But so was half the rest of the team.

I thought exactly the same when I first saw this thread. I'm not getting too involved but I sometimes describe black people as niggers and don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's not meant to offend them.

Edit: N-igger is censored? Thats' what i dont understand. In the dictionary it says 1. a black person 2. a dark-skinned person, so why can't we use this word in the right context?

Anyway, the difference between Ron Atkinson and someone like Bernard Manning is that one of them makes a career out of being racist, the other made one racist comment and resigned as a result. I don't think Ron's a racist person, but he's an idiot for using that word and he was quite right to resign.
