I saw them on a programme (can't remember what) and for some reason hearing george and bungle swearing was so funny

Actually, as Gaspode says, it was late night - the only reason they got away with some things must have been because it went over the kids' heads. Like Captain Pugwash, with Master Bates and Roger the Cabin Boy...
